Derry, Maine, may look like a postcard town on the surface, but its residents would argue otherwise—especially with Pennywise lurking below.
HBO has dropped the full trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry, a chilling prequel series expanding Stephen King’s iconic universe. Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as the terrifying clown, starring alongside Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
Set in 1962, the story rewinds the clock to explore the roots of evil long before the Losers Club ever faced it. The trailer opens with a haunting question from a child desperate for answers: “Do you think somebody could kidnap a kid and keep him underground? In the sewers?” That fear soon spirals into blood, screams, and the return of Pennywise’s sinister red balloon.
If these first glimpses are any indication, the nine-episode series is promising an unsettling ride. As the trailer teases, “Something bad is coming.”
The series comes from Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, who developed it for television. Andy Muschietti directs multiple episodes and executive produces with Barbara (Double Dream), Fuchs (FiveTen Productions), Brad Caleb Kane—who also co-showruns—David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, and Skarsgård. Fuchs penned the first episode’s teleplay, sharing co-showrunner duties with Kane.
IT: Welcome to Derry expands on the billion-dollar film adaptations, digging into how deeply the curse has haunted the town for generations. Expect new mythology blended with familiar terror, and Pennywise back in all his horrifying glory.
The series premieres October 26, 2025, on HBO and Max. Watch the trailer above and brace yourself to return to Derry—because the nightmare is just beginning.
