Jay Ellis and Nicholas Duvernay Join Mindy Kaling’s Hulu Comedy ‘Not Suitable For Work’

Jay Ellis and Nicholas Duvernay have signed on to star in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Hulu comedy series Not Suitable For Work, set in Manhattan’s upscale Murray Hill neighborhood. They will star alongside Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, and Jack Martin.

The workplace comedy follows five driven twenty-somethings hustling for professional success and, if time allows, a shot at personal happiness. Ellis will portray Bill Gibson, a charismatic investment banker admired as his firm’s highest-earning managing director. Duvernay is stepping into the role of Kel Washington, a medical student struggling through exams while plotting his big break as an actor.

Hunt plays AJ Pascarelli, a first-year analyst at a prestigious investment bank; Avantika is Abhinaya “Abby” Chilukuri, a savvy assistant to a celebrity stylist; Angus takes on Davis Beau Bradley Barrett III, a finance bro with a soft side; and Martin plays Josh Teitelbaum, a bright and idealistic New Yorker.

Not Suitable For Work hails from Kaling, who created and executive produces alongside showrunner Charlie Grandy (The Sex Lives of College Girls, The Mindy Project) and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Howard Klein. Kaling International produces in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Ellis, best known for HBO’s Insecure and Top Gun: Maverick, recently starred in Netflix’s Running Point and Lionsgate’s Freaky Tales. He’ll next be seen in Peacock’s All Her Fault.
