Percy Jackson and the Olympians has found its Frederick Chase.
Jesse L. Martin has joined Season 3 of Disney+’s hit fantasy series in a guest-starring role, portraying Annabeth Chase’s mortal father. The upcoming season is expected to adapt The Titan’s Curse, the third novel in Rick Riordan’s five-book saga.
Martin will play Frederick Chase, a brilliant but often absentminded military historian whom Athena deemed worthy to raise her daughter. While Frederick and Annabeth have a complicated relationship, he deeply loves her, and Season 3 will explore their efforts to reconnect.
Season 3 will introduce several key characters from the beloved novel, including Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie as Nico and Bianca di Angelo, the children of Hades. Dafne Keen joins as Artemis, goddess of the hunt, while Saara Chaudry will portray Zoë Nightshade.
The season will also feature Holt McCallany in a recurring guest role as the Titan Atlas, also known as the Bearer of Heaven. Punished by Zeus to hold up the sky following the Titan War, Atlas has recently been freed and now seeks revenge by leading Kronos’ armies against the Olympians. Deadline reports McCallany will appear in six episodes, making Atlas the primary antagonist of Season 3 and a continuing threat beyond.
David Costabile has also been cast in a recurring role as Dr. Thorn, a stern military academy headmaster who demands strict obedience from his students. Book readers will recognize this as only the character’s human form, though further mythological details are being kept under wraps to avoid spoilers.
Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is currently airing weekly on Disney+ and follows Percy (Walker Scobell) as he returns to Camp Half-Blood to find everything changed. Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) is pulling away, Grover (Aryan Simhadri) has gone missing, and Percy discovers he has a cyclops half-brother named Tyson (Daniel Diemer). As Kronos’ forces threaten the camp, Percy embarks on a dangerous journey into the Sea of Monsters.
Production on Season 3 is currently underway in Vancouver.
Martin most recently starred in NBC’s The Irrational, which ran for two seasons. His extensive television career includes Law & Order, Ally McBeal, The Flash, Smash, and The X-Files. McCallany’s recent credits include The Waterfront, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, The Iron Claw, and Netflix’s Mindhunter. Costabile is widely known for roles in Breaking Bad, Billions, The Wire, Suits, and Damages.
