Jesse Williams is Stepping Into The Newsroom — Joins ‘The Morning Show’ Season 5

The Morning Show is shaking up its newsroom once again.

Jesse Williams has officially joined the upcoming fifth season of the Apple TV+ drama, stepping into the role of Vernon, UBN’s newly appointed Head of News. And based on early details, he’s not coming in quietly. Vernon is described as a bold, disruptive force—someone who thrives on stirring the pot while keeping audiences locked in.

Williams joins a returning ensemble that includes Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell,  and Jon Hamm, alongside recently announced addition Jeff Daniels.

Season 4 left the network in chaos after a high-stakes takedown of UBN leadership, exposing corruption, corporate cover-ups, and the lengths executives will go to control the narrative. With the merger complete and the dust barely settled, Season 5 is positioned to dive even deeper into the blurred lines between truth, power, and perception—especially in an era shaped by deepfakes, misinformation, and media manipulation.

Williams’ casting signals a new dynamic inside the newsroom. His character, Vernon, isn’t just another executive—he’s someone who understands the spectacle of news as much as the substance. That combination could either stabilize UBN… or push it further into chaos.

Outside of The Morning Show, Williams continues to balance acting with producing, most recently working on socially driven projects like the documentary Hoops, Hopes and Dreams and short-lived Prime Video series Costiera. He’s also known for his long-running role as Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy and his acclaimed stage work in Take Me Out.
