Jodie Turner-Smith has joined the cast of Brides, the upcoming horror feature from Watcher director Chloe Okuno, now filming in Budapest.
Set in 1961, the film follows Sally Bishop (Olivia Cooke) and her husband as they embark on a trip through Northern Italy. When their car breaks down, they find refuge at a remote villa ruled by the mysterious Vova (Harry Lawtey). Inside, Sally encounters a haunting world of immortal women (Turner-Smith and Viola Prettejohn) and their unsettling caretaker (Burn Gorman). As she’s drawn deeper into their seductive and violent world, Sally begins to lose her sense of time, identity, and control—until her own dark transformation begins.
The ensemble also features Lawtey (Industry), Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Prettejohn (The Testament of Ann Lee), and Gorman (Frankenstein). The film reunites Okuno and Gorman, who previously collaborated on her breakout debut Watcher.
Written and directed by Okuno, Brides is produced by Anthony Bregman, Stefanie Azpiazu, and Greg Zuk for Likely Story, with Manor Kill Media financing. NEON, which secured North American rights last year, will handle domestic distribution, while Focus International will oversee global release alongside FilmNation in select territories.
Turner-Smith first gained acclaim for her breakout performance opposite Daniel Kaluuya in Queen & Slim. Her additional credits include After Yang, Anne Boleyn, Bad Monkey, and Noah Baumbach’s White Noise. She can currently be seen in Tron: Ares and Paramount+ with Showtime’s The Agency, which returns for its second season next year.
