Keke Palmer Was Proposed to on Stage in an Awkward Moment During SXSW Podcast Recording [VIDEO]

An unexpected moment unfolded during South by Southwest when Keke Palmer was interrupted by a surprise marriage proposal while hosting a live podcast recording.

Palmer was on stage Friday recording an episode of her podcast “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” alongside her I Love Boosters co-stars — Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, and Eiza González — when a man from the audience suddenly approached the stage.

According to video footage circulating online via TMZ, the man walked up to the front of the stage, dropped to one knee, and opened a ring box while proposing to Palmer.

The moment left Palmer and the rest of the panel visibly stunned.

“I can’t marry you. I don’t know you. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, sir,” Palmer responded, drawing laughter from the audience.

At first, Palmer assumed the moment might have been a prank, even joking that it felt like the return of Punk’d.

However, audience members quickly confirmed it was not staged, prompting security to step in. The man remained on one knee briefly while insisting she wanted to say yes before event staff eventually escorted him out.

The situation prompted a lighthearted response from Paige, who joked onstage, “Sorry to this man,” referencing the viral meme inspired by Palmer herself.

Once the disruption ended, Palmer asked the audience to take a breath so the panel could refocus on the conversation, and the crowd responded with applause.

SXSW Premiere for I Love Boosters

Palmer was in Austin promoting her latest film, I Love Boosters, which premiered as the opening-night selection at SXSW.

The film, directed by Boots Riley, stars Palmer alongside Ackie, Moore, Paige, Liu, and González.

Despite the unexpected interruption, Palmer quickly returned to hosting duties and continued the discussion with the panel — a reminder of the composure and quick wit that have become hallmarks of her career.
