KJ Smith Black and Skyh Black Launch Blackhouse Media, Set First Feature on Maternal Mental Health — Okema T. Moore to Direct

KJ Smith Black, best known for headlining Sistas across nine seasons, and her husband Skyh Black (All the Queen’s Men) are stepping into producing with the launch of their new banner, Blackhouse Media. Their first feature project, an untitled psychological thriller, has wrapped principal photography and puts maternal mental health at the center of its story.

Smith Black also stars in the film, which is directed by Okema T. Moore, fresh from her 2025 American Black Film Festival win.

The thriller is described as a character-driven exploration of trust, obsession, and the fragile boundaries between perception and reality—all told through the lens of motherhood and the psychological pressures it can bring.

The couple emphasized the timeliness of the story, pointing to CDC data showing that Black women are more than three times as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications.

The film marks Blackhouse Media’s first slate announcement, with the company focused on producing “elevated, story- and character-driven films and prestige television projects.”

Additional casting and post-production details to come.
