BET+ is set to explore the music scene in Atlanta with its upcoming half-hour dramedy inspired by the life of rapper-actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. The untitled DJ project takes its cues from Ludacris’ experiences as DJ Chris Lova Lova, chronicling the misadventures of an ensemble dedicated to boosting ratings at their hip hop radio station.

The series, currently in the development stage, will be written by Noah Gardenswartz, known for his work on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Ludacris joins as an executive producer and music supervisor, adding his unique insight into the competitive music scene. The collaboration involves key players from Universal Television and Disturbing Tha Peace, Ludacris’ label from the 1990s.

Larry Wilmore, Malcolm D. Lee and his Blackmaled Productions’ Dominique Telson, Disturbing Tha Peace’s Jeff Dixon, Josh Bratman and Polygram Entertainment’s David Blackman are also involved as exec producers.

This collaboration marks a reunion between Ludacris and Universal, given his role in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Malcolm D. Lee, known for his work on Girls Trip and Night School, brings his expertise as an executive producer. Larry Wilmore, with credits like Black-ish and Insecure, contributes to the project’s creative team.

The series promises an authentic exploration of Atlanta’s competitive music scene, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges faced by DJ Chris Lova Lova and his colleagues in their quest for success at the hip hop radio station.
