Luke Tennie Joins ‘Abbott Elementary’ Season 5 as New Teacher

There’s a new teacher at Abbott Elementary.

Luke Tennie (Shrinking) has been tapped for a recurring role in Season 5 of ABC’s Emmy-winning comedy Abbott Elementary. He’ll debut in the October 1 premiere episode as Dominic, a new teacher stepping into the Abbott hallways.

Produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, Abbott Elementary follows a dedicated group of teachers navigating the challenges of working at an underfunded public school in Philadelphia. The series, created by Quinta Brunson, has become a cultural phenomenon since its 2021 debut.

While details about Season 5 remain tightly under wraps, ABC did tease one major storyline: the Abbott cast was spotted filming at Citizens Bank Park during a Philadelphia Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves. The shoot confirmed what Brunson hinted at during San Diego Comic-Con—that the new season would feature a “live event” and give Philly sports fans something to cheer about.

Alongside Tennie’s arrival, the returning cast includes Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson, and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard.

Since its launch, Abbott Elementary has earned 30 Emmy nominations and four wins, including Brunson’s 2023 award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Ralph’s 2022 win for Outstanding Supporting Actress. The pilot episode also earned Brunson an Emmy for Outstanding Writing.

Behind the scenes, Brunson executive produces with Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn, and Brian Rubenstein.

Abbott Elementary returns for Season 5 on October 1 on ABC.
