Marsai Martin is bringing the cookout back in a big way. The actress and producer will host the third annual Sai Summer Cookout this Labor Day weekend, turning Houston’s Texas Southern University into a three-day homecoming of food, music, and culture.
Running Friday, August 29 – Sunday, August 31, 2025, the event blends the heart of a traditional Southern cookout with the energy of a festival. Martin will be joined by hosts Scott Evans (House Guest), Serena Page (Love Island), and Zoie Fenty (Wild ’N Out), with special guest appearances throughout the weekend.
In a major highlight, renowned food critic Keith Lee will partner with the Cookout to launch a dynamic food court experience, spotlighting the best of Houston’s local culinary scene. And when it comes to music, the stage will be lit all weekend long — with performances from Paul Wall, MonaLeo, Ari Camille, Kwn, and live band The Session, plus DJs Richy Smart, Slater Rose, and Mr. Rogers keeping the vibe alive from day to night.
“I’m so excited to bring Sai Summer Cookout to Texas Southern,” Martin shared. “I spent so many summers here with my family, so coming back feels like home. This weekend is about my generation connecting with those before us, building new memories, and loving on each other.”
What started in 2023 as Martin’s vision for a joyful close to summer has become a movement. Sai Summer Cookout isn’t just about entertainment—it’s a multigenerational gathering that celebrates community and connection. From swapping stories to sharing resources, the event doubles as a love letter to Southern hospitality and Black cultural pride.
This year’s lineup includes immersive activities, including Urban Trivia Game Night, Sai Soul Sessions with Walk Good LA, and the always-anticipated Black Excellence Brunch.
