The upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series at Amazon Prime Video has officially expanded its cast, with rising British actor Martin Bobb-Semple boarding the project in what, Variety reports is a major series regular role. He joins previously confirmed lead Sophie Turner, who will take on the mantle of the iconic adventurer Lara Croft.
While specific plot details have not been released, the series is expected to feature the “exhilarating adventures” the franchise is known for, with a focus on Lara’s globe-trotting exploration of ancient tombs and mysteries.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. She will co-showrun alongside Chad Hodge, with Jonathan van Tulleken set to direct and executive-produce. Production officially kicks off January 19, 2026, following early development reports dating back to 2023 and Amazon’s official series order in 2024.
The project is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins under Wells Street Productions, Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, Hodge, van Tulleken, and Legendary Television. It is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios under a broader pact to expand Tomb Raider into a new universe of shows and films.
Waller-Bridge previously teased the scale and excitement of the production, while Turner expressed gratitude and awe stepping into Lara’s legacy, calling the role “massive shoes to fill.” With Bobb-Semple now aboard, the series continues to lock in talent as Amazon builds what could become the most ambitious adaptation of Tomb Raider yet.
A Franchise Built on Legacy
Tomb Raider stands tall as one of the most enduring and culturally recognizable gaming franchises of all time. Introduced in 1996 by Core Design and later developed by Crystal Dynamics, the original game revolutionized action-adventure storytelling and technology, placing players in control of Lara Croft — a brilliant, athletic, artifact-hunting archaeologist who travels the world unearthing secrets, fighting enemies, and uncovering ancient mysteries.
The character quickly transcended gaming, expanding into film, comics, animation, and merchandising. Angelina Jolie first brought Lara Croft to the big screen in two early-2000s films, followed by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot. Now Turner becomes the latest actress to embody Croft, as the franchise enters its next era — bigger budget, fresh storylines, and a broader international scope.
Bobb-Semple is best known for his standout performance on All American: Homecoming, where he began as a recurring player before being elevated to series regular in Season 3. His recent credits also include roles in Peacock’s One of Us is Lying, Netflix’s Free Rein.
