Marvel’s ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Sets Earlier Disney+ Premiere Date, Full Series to Drop August 1

Marvel Studios’ upcoming animated series Eyes of Wakanda will now premiere earlier than expected on Disney+. Originally slated for August 27, the anthology series is now scheduled to debut on Friday, August 1, with all four episodes dropping at once.

Set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Sacred Timeline,” Eyes of Wakanda expands the mythology of Wakanda by spotlighting the elite Hatut Zaraze warriors—an undercover force tasked with retrieving stolen vibranium across different periods in world history. Each episode explores a new mission in a different era, combining historical fiction with Marvel lore.

The series is created, directed, and showrun by Todd Harris and produced by Marvel Studios Animation in partnership with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media. Eyes of Wakanda is the 15th official series in the MCU and one of its few animated shows directly tied to the franchise’s central narrative.

The first episode is set in 1260 B.C.E. and introduces Noni, a former Dora Milaje member voiced by Winnie Harlow. Now being considered for the Hatut Zaraze, Noni is described as a rogue agent—“a James Bond version of a Dora”—who doesn’t fully align with the organization’s methods. Her mission is to stop a warlord known as the Lion, voiced by Cress Williams, a rogue Wakandan who is attempting to use advanced Wakandan technology to conquer Crete.

The voice cast also includes Anika Noni Rose, Steve Toussaint, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, and Zeke Alton.

Visually, the animation is handled by Axis Animation and draws inspiration from African-American artists like Ernie Barnes and American illustrator Dean Cornwell. According to Harris, the series aims to stretch the boundaries of what Marvel fans are used to, introducing unexpected corners of the universe—including a surprising new iteration of Iron Fist.

Eyes of Wakanda first entered development in 2023 following Disney’s overall deal with Ryan Coogler and Proximity Media. The series was officially announced in December 2023, with Harris’ involvement confirmed in early 2024. The first episode had its world debut at the Annecy Animation Festival earlier this year.

The full four-episode season of Eyes of Wakanda premieres exclusively on Disney+ on August 1.
