Megan Thee Stallion Shares Recording Update on Anime Series ‘Hotties’ Developed With Carl Jones

Megan Thee Stallion is officially in the booth…for her new anime series.

The Grammy-winning rapper shared a behind-the-scenes update revealing that she has begun recording voice work for her upcoming anime series, reportedly titled Hotties, produced and developed in collaboration with The Boondocks creative Carl Jones. In a video posted to TikTok, Megan took viewers into the studio as she prepared to voice her character.

“I’m about to record my voice for my character in my new anime Hotties with Carl Jones,” she said. Jones’ work includes Black Dynamite, Young Love, The Jellies, and most notably The Boondocks, the culturally sharp animated series that helped redefine Black adult animation. For Megan, teaming up with someone who understands both satire and action animation feels intentional.

“The Caviar of Anime”

Megan didn’t just drop an update — she gave a full mood board.

“This has been in the works for so long, and I’m just so happy that it’s finally coming to life,” she shared. “Y’all are about to experience the motherf***ing caviar of anime.”

And then she broke down exactly what kind of series viewers can expect.

“If you love bad bitches, fly clothes, cool hairstyles, ass-whooping storytelling, character arc, development  — this might be the anime for you.”

Translation: this isn’t background-noise anime. This is fashion-forward, fight-heavy, character-driven storytelling. Megan is promising real arcs, real action, and bold women who evolve — not just aesthetically, but emotionally.

She also joked about the realities of voice acting, admitting she doesn’t know if she’ll be “jumping, ducking, dodging, fighting for my life” in the booth, but made it clear she’s enjoying every second of the process.

Megan first announced the anime at DreamCon in Houston last year, appearing dressed as Yoruichi Shihōin from Bleach. During the panel, she revealed that the series would stream exclusively on Prime Video and promised something audiences hadn’t seen before.

“You ain’t never seen an anime like this ever in your life,” she told the crowd.

The announcement wasn’t random. Megan has long been vocal about her love for anime, frequently cosplaying characters like Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia and referencing series like Jujutsu Kaisen in her lyrics. She once described herself as “half anime character, half rapper,” citing her admiration for power arcs — watching characters train, struggle, and grow into their strength.

That theme of transformation appears to be central to Hotties.

Why ‘Hotties’ Could Be a Moment

Black-led anime and anime-adjacent projects remain rare, despite a massive global audience and an equally passionate Black fan base. Pairing Megan’s cultural influence with Jones’ animation background positions Hotties as a potentially significant entry into that space.

A Prime Video-backed anime centered on bold Black characters, high-level aesthetics, and real storytelling could shift the conversation around who gets to lead in animation.

There’s still no official release date, but one thing is clear: production is moving, the voice work is underway, and Megan Thee Stallion is fully stepping into her anime protagonist era.

And if she’s calling it the “caviar of anime,” expectations are already high.
