HBO Max’s breakout medical drama ‘The Pitt’ is expanding its emergency room as Meta Golding and Luke Tennie join the cast for Season 2.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill and produced by John Wells, ‘The Pitt’ follows the relentless, hour-by-hour realities facing frontline healthcare workers inside the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Told in real time, the series captures both the life-or-death medical cases and the personal pressures doctors and nurses face amid overcrowding, understaffing, and limited resources.
Golding will portray Noelle Hastings, a nurse at PTMC, while Tennie steps in as Dr. Crus Henderson, a fourth-year resident working the night shift. Alongside them, Christopher Thornton was added as Dr. Caleb Jefferson, a psychiatric attending physician, and Travis Van Winkle as Curtis Larson, an aggressive ER patient.
Led by Noah Wyle—who also serves as an executive producer—the series returns for its sophomore season on January 8, picking up 10 months after the Season 1 finale. Season 2 unfolds over a single, high-stakes shift during Fourth of July weekend.
Wyle reprises his role as Dr. Michael Robinavitch alongside returning cast members Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, Fiona Dourif, Supriya Ganesh, Shabana Azeez, Gerran Howell, and Shawn Hatosy. Sepideh Moafi has joined the cast as a new attending physician in emergency medicine, while Charles Baker, Irene Choi, Laëtitia Hollard, Lucas Iverson, Lawrence Robinson, Brittany Allen, Bonita Friedericy, Taylor Handley, and Jeff Kober will appear in recurring roles.
Robinson plays Brian Hancock, a charming patient who turns a soccer injury into a potential meet-cute, while Allen, Friedericy, Handley, and Kober portray a mix of patients and visitors whose arrivals complicate an already intense shift.
Tracy Ifeachor will not return for Season 2, following her portrayal of Dr. Heather Collins in the first season.
Season 1 of ‘The Pitt’ earned 13 Emmy nominations, ultimately winning five awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. Wyle, LaNasa, and Hatosy each took home acting wins, and Wyle recently received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.
The series is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Gemmill, Wells, Wyle, Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan, Joe Sachs, and Michael Hissrich executive produce. Hatosy is also set to direct an episode in the upcoming season, with Amanda Marsalis serving as director and executive producer.
With its real-time format and expanded ensemble, ‘The Pitt’ is gearing up for an even more intense return to the ER.
