Disney’s Andscape and Hulu deliver something unexpected with STAY — a supernatural thriller that’s as psychological as it is spiritual. Directed by Jas Summers, the film follows a couple, Miles (Mo McRae) and Kiara (Megalyn Echikunwoke), whose marriage has reached a breaking point. But as they pack up their home and prepare to separate, the house traps them inside — forcing them to face their inner demons, literally and figuratively.
In a conversation with BLEX Media’s Sharifa Daniels, McRae and Echikunwoke open up about the emotional weight behind their performances, the vulnerability it took to “fight themselves” on screen, and how love, even in its most painful form, can still be redemptive.
“I’d never done anything in the horror genre,” McRae shared. “But I thought it was an incredible opportunity to showcase a Black couple dealing with extreme darkness — and love being the only light that could help them see their way through.”
Echikunwoke agreed, calling the experience both challenging and therapeutic: “It forces you to have compassion — for your partner, and for yourself. You can’t grow or heal without that.”
Together, the duo explores what happens when silence, ego, and pain go unhealed — and how confronting your shadow self might be the real key to freedom.
