Inspired by the true story of the fourth-century saint Moses the Black, the film blends street-level crime drama with spiritual reckoning, following a feared gang leader whose life begins to unravel after his release from prison.
Epps stars as Malik, a powerful West Side Chicago figure determined to avenge the murder of his closest friend while struggling to keep control of his crew and the streets around him. Corey Hendrix plays Mike, Malik’s loyal right-hand man, as rising tensions push volatile members of the crew — including Wiz Khalifa’s hotheaded 2wo-3ree — toward all-out retaliation. Quavo appears as Straw, a ruthless rival gang leader closing in as the city teeters on the edge of war.
As violence escalates and a corrupt police officer (Cliff Chamberlain) tightens the pressure, Malik begins experiencing haunting visions tied to St. Moses the Black, portrayed by Chukwudi Iwuji. The spiritual figure’s legacy becomes impossible to ignore, forcing Malik to confront not only his past but the internal battle threatening to destroy him.

Written and directed by Yelena Popovic (Man of God), Moses the Black was shot in Chicago and marks another collaboration between Popovic, Simeon Faith, and Fathom Entertainment. The project also reunites Fathom with Simeon Entertainment following their 2022 release Man of God.
In addition to its ensemble cast — which includes Skilla Baby, Ahmad Ferguson, Sambou “Bubba” Camara, Kierra Bunch, and former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder — the film features an original soundtrack executive-produced by Wiz Khalifa, with contributions from Quavo and other artists that underscore the film’s emotional intensity and modern edge.
Moses the Black will screen in theaters nationwide from January 30 through February 5, with showtimes varying by location. Tickets are available now through Fathom Entertainment and participating theater box offices.
The newly released full-length trailer offers a first look at the film’s high-stakes drama, spiritual symbolism, and escalating tension — setting the stage for a story centered on power, redemption, and the cost of loyalty.
