Netflix Cancels Both ‘The Vince Staples Show’ & ‘The Abandons’

Netflix is not moving forward with additional seasons of The Vince Staples Show, ending the satirical comedy after its sophomore run.

Despite never appearing on Netflix’s Weekly Top 10, The Vince Staples Show was well received, holding a 94% critics score and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, that acclaim didn’t translate into sustained viewing numbers.

Season 2 ranked No. 1,446 on Netflix’s second-half 2025 viewership list, pulling in 1.7 million views following its November 6 release. By comparison, Season 1 logged 4.6 million views over a longer tracking window from February 15 through June 30, 2024. Netflix notes that streaming titles are heavily front-loaded, with the majority of viewing occurring within the first 90 days, making extended measurement periods less impactful.

The series was co-created by Vince Staples, Ian Edelman, and Maurice Williams, and executive produced by Kenya Barris, Staples, Corey Smyth, William Stefan Smith, Andrea Sperling, and Leonard Chang. The show offered a surreal, slice-of-life take loosely inspired by Staples’ experiences, blending absurdist humor with moments of reflection and emotional depth.

The cancellation isn’t entirely surprising given Netflix’s broader recent decisions. The streamer has also opted not to continue freshman drama The Abandons, another well-publicized but ultimately short-lived series.

The Abandons, which premiered December 4, logged 19.8 million views in its first 28 days and spent two weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 English-language series, ranking No. 4 with 7.4 million and 7.6 million views, respectively. Interest dropped sharply afterward, with just 4.8 million additional views over the following 17 days.

The Western drama starred Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson and faced behind-the-scenes challenges, including the departure of creator Kurt Sutter before production wrapped. Headey remains in business with Netflix, however, as a lead in an upcoming four-part detective series from Charlie Brooker.

While The Vince Staples Show may not continue, its short run leaves behind a distinctive entry in Netflix’s comedy slate—one that proved critics and viewers don’t always align with algorithm-driven outcomes.
