Netflix is kicking off the festive season with a toast to romance, dropping the official trailer for Love & Wine, its new South African romcom arriving December 5, 2025. Inspired by the hit Brazilian film Ricos de Amor, the film transports viewers to the lush, sun-drenched Cape Winelands for a warm, charming, and slightly chaotic love story with a local twist.
Love & Wine follows Ovee (Ntobeko Sishi), the privileged heir to a winemaking empire who’s determined to prove he’s more than just his famous last name. Unimpressed by the legacy laid out for him, Ovee sets out to carve his own path — and hatches a bold plan to test whether love can survive social hierarchies and family expectations. Helping him along (and sometimes derailing the mission) is his best friend and driver, Nathi (Thandolwethu Zondi).
The trailer teases a whirlwind of romance, vineyard mischief, and identity-testing antics. Ovee’s plan becomes a lot messier when he meets Amahle (Masali Baduza), a grounded, hardworking doctor whose sincerity forces him to confront the truths he’s been dodging. Meanwhile, Nathi is getting a taste of the soft life — quite literally — as he steps into the Sityebi name and unexpectedly falls for Lena (Thando Thabethe), the winery’s no-nonsense, all-business manager.
The film also stars Desmond Dube, N’kone Mametja, Simone Neethling, Rorisang Mohapi, Thembsie Matu, and Bohang Moeko.
A collaboration between Netflix Africa and Quizzical Pictures, Love & Wine is directed by Amanda Lane and executive-produced by Odirile Mekwa, JP Potgieter, and Harriet Gavshon. Lane also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Darryl Bristow-Bovey and Zelipa Zulu, shaping the story into a South African romcom anchored in class contrast, heartfelt moments, and comedic chaos.
Produced across Cape Town and the Western Cape Winelands, Love & Wine looks poised to charm audiences who love feel-good romances with a bit of dramatic spice.
Love & Wine streams globally on Netflix on December 5, 2025.
