Netflix has dropped the first trailer for The Woman in Cabin 10, its psychological thriller adaptation of Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel. The film, directed by Simon Stone, premieres on the streamer October 10.
Keira Knightley stars as Lo Blacklock, a travel journalist sent to cover a luxury superyacht’s maiden voyage. What begins as a cushy assignment turns into a fight for survival after she hears a woman’s muffled cries in the night and witnesses someone being thrown overboard. When she reports it, the crew insists no such passenger ever existed—and all aboard are accounted for.
The yacht’s glittering guest list includes Richard Bullmer (Guy Pearce), a wealthy owner with secrets; Heidi (Hannah Waddingham), the gossipy socialite; Grace (Kaya Scodelario), a social media influencer; Adam (Daniel Ings), an heir to a media empire; and Ben (David Ajala), a photographer who becomes Lo’s uneasy ally. The ensemble cast also features Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Art Malik, David Morrissey, Pippa Bennett-Warner, John MacMillan, Amanda Collin, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Paul Kaye, Christopher Rygh, and Gitte Witt.
The trailer teases escalating paranoia, power struggles, and a deadly game of gaslighting as Lo fights to uncover the truth while being pushed to the edge—literally. “You never question whether or not she saw what she saw,” Stone told Netflix. “You agree completely with her. It’s her struggle against the conspiracy.”
Stone drew inspiration from classic 1970s thrillers like Marathon Man, Klute, The Conversation, and Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes, shaping the film with a tense, paranoid energy while centering a female lead not defined by doubt but determination.
The Woman in Cabin 10 was adapted by Joe Shrapnel, Anna Waterhouse, and Simon Stone, from a screenplay based on Emma Frost’s earlier draft. It is produced by Debra Hayward and Ilda Diffley, with Cindy Holland and Richard Hewitt executive producing.
Ware, who released a sequel novel The Woman in Suite 11 earlier this summer, revisits protagonist Lo Blacklock in her ongoing saga of suspense.
