Nine Join Taraji P. Henson and Joey Bada$$ in Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin’s Faith-Based Movie ‘’Tis So Sweet’

Production is rolling in Atlanta on ’Tis So Sweet, the second film out of Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin’s faith-based partnership with Netflix — and the cast just got even stronger. Nine new actors have officially joined Taraji P. Henson and Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, better known as Joey Bada$$, in the inspirational true-story drama.

The film is inspired by the viral real-life journey of Chicago baker Lenore Lindsey, whose miraculous discovery forces her to confront lost time, heal old wounds, and rediscover purpose. Henson leads as Lindsey, with Scott starring alongside her as the emotional story unfolds.

The New Additions

The nine actors joining the ensemble are:

  • Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard, Ray)
  • Russell Hornsby (The Hate U Give, Fences)
  • Alexis Louder (Copshop)
  • Semaj Prather
  • Arischa Conner
  • Angela Davis (Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, The Good Daughter)
  • Caroline Avery Granger (Cobra Kai)
  • Tasha Smith
  • DeVon Franklin

Smith, who continues to shine behind and in front of the camera, also directs the film. Her previous directing credits include Mayor of Kingstown, Harlem, Bel-Air, and BMF. The script comes from Randy Brown (Miracles From Heaven), with DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry producing. Executive producers include Tony Strickland and Angi Bones for Tyler Perry Studios, along with Bart Lipton.

A Growing Era for Faith-Based Films at Netflix

’Tis So Sweet marks the second film from Perry and Franklin’s creative partnership crafting faith-driven stories for Netflix. Their first title, Ruth & Boaz, made an immediate splash, debuting at No. 2 on the streamer’s Global Top 10 Movies (English) list.

Taraji P. Henson’s Momentum Continues

The project arrives as Henson is experiencing a major career surge. Fresh off leading Netflix’s thriller Straw, the actor-producer recently inked a multi-project deal with Netflix and a first-look agreement with Fox Entertainment Studios under her TPH Entertainment banner. She’s also reuniting with Perry for Why Did I Get Married Again?, strengthening her growing partnership with the filmmaker and the platform.

With a powerhouse cast, a director deeply connected to the material, and a story rooted in healing and purpose, ’Tis So Sweet is shaping up to be another impactful entry in Netflix’s expanding faith-based slate.

More details on production and release timing will be announced soon.
