Netflix is diving into a darker side of adolescence with The Body, an eight-episode coming-of-age drama from creator, showrunner, and director Quinn Shephard. The project, which was first ordered in May, has officially unveiled its ensemble cast.
Leading the series are Nnamdi Asomugha (Sylvie’s Love) as Father Franklin, Sofia Wylie (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) as Grace Franklin, Kristina Bogic (Playing Gracie Darling) as Anya Butler, Sara Boustany as Elise Zakaria, Geena Meszaros as Lisbeth Anderson, Louisa Krause as Catherine Anderson, Shirley Chen (Slanted) as Maddie Delaney, and Jackson Kelly as Leo Anderson.
Joining them in recurring roles are Kyra Pierce (Chicago Fire) as Bailey Bradley, Phallon Pierce (Chicago Fire) as Brit Bradley, Marcel Ruiz (One Day at a Time) as Tyler Santos, Orlando Norman (The Map That Leads to You) as Steven Maxwell, and Gabby Windey (The Bachelor, The Traitors) as Coach Miller.
The official logline teases: after a dance-team initiation goes horribly wrong, a group of rebellious Catholic school girls begin experiencing prophetic visions, sparking mass hysteria throughout their town.
The Body comes from North Road Company and Felix Culpa, the production company of Riley Keough, who worked with Shephard on FX’s acclaimed limited series Under the Bridge. Executive producers include Peter Chernin, Amy Israel, and Josh Stern for North Road, Keough, Gina Gammell, and Sacha Ben Harroche for Felix Culpa, along with Blair Breard.
Shephard, who began her career as an actor in The Miseducation of Cameron Post, has steadily built a reputation as a fearless storyteller behind the camera. Her directing credits include the Tribeca-premiering Blame, Hulu’s Not Okay, and the award-nominated Under the Bridge, which spotlighted a young ensemble cast including Lily Gladstone.
With Shephard at the helm and a cast that blends rising talent with established names, The Body is shaping up to be a haunting and unflinching take on faith, hysteria, and the fragile bonds of adolescence.
