Noma Dumezweni, Toheeb Jimoh, Sarah Junillon and More Join Cynthia Erivo in ‘Prima Facie’ — First Look

Cynthia Erivo is headed from Oz to the courtroom, and she’s bringing a powerhouse ensemble with her.

Noma Dumezweni, Toheeb Jimoh, and Sarah Junillon join Erivo in the feature adaptation of Suzie Miller’s acclaimed play Prima Facie. The cast also includes Daniel Ings, Elizabeth Dulau , Harry Treadaway, Elliot Levey, and Simon Russell Beale.

Principal photography has wrapped in London, with a first-look image showcasing Erivo as Tessa Ensler, a sharp U.K. defense barrister who has mastered the art of defending men accused of sexual assault. But as her star rises in the legal world, she faces a turning point that challenges her beliefs and forces her to confront a system she once championed.

Directed by BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Susanna White (Andor, Woman Walks Ahead), the film brings Miller’s Olivier and Tony-winning stage phenomenon to the screen. Erivo also serves as executive producer under her Edith’s Daughter banner.

Filming took place across key London legal landmarks including The Old Bailey, Lincoln’s Inn, and the new Story Works studio complex.

The project is an Australia-U.K. co-production backed by Bunya Productions and Embankment Films, with international pre-sales secured and U.S. rights being handled by Embankment alongside UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance.

A release date will be announced soon.
