Omar Epps Leads Moses the Black as Teaser Trailer Drops for Chicago Crime-Redemption Drama

The teaser trailer has arrived for Moses the Black, the upcoming Chicago-set crime drama led by Omar Epps, Wiz Khalifa, Quavo and Chukwudi Iwuji. The film, inspired by the true story of the fourth-century saint, follows a feared gang leader whose life begins to splinter under the weight of loyalty, violence and consequence. Theatrical release is set for January 30, 2026 through Fathom Entertainment.

In the film, Epps stars as Malik, a powerful Chicago gang leader pulled into a battle for control while confronting his own reckoning. Wiz Khalifa plays 2wo-3ree, Malik’s volatile second-in-command in his first leading film role. Quavo appears as Straw, Malik’s longtime rival, and Iwuji portrays St. Moses the Black, the spiritual force whose legacy shapes Malik’s transformation. The film also features Corey Hendrix, Cliff Chamberlain, Ahmad Ferguson, Sambou “Bubba” Camara, Kierra Bunch, Skilla Baby and former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

Written and directed by Yelena Popovic (Man of God), Moses the Black blends crime drama with spiritual awakening as Malik’s power begins to crumble, forcing him to confront both his past and his faith. The project was shot in Chicago and recently completed production.

The film will arrive with an original soundtrack executive-produced by Wiz Khalifa, including new music from Quavo and others, which serves as a key driver of the film’s tone and atmosphere.

“This film is about redemption and real change. It’s raw, it’s emotional, and it’s powerful,” said executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment, called the film “action-packed” and positioned for theatrical play, noting the star power and contemporary relevance driving early interest.

Moses the Black marks the second collaboration between Fathom and Simeon Entertainment following their 2022 release Man of God. Tickets go on sale December 19.
