NBC is keeping its strongest franchise firmly in place. The network has officially renewed all three pillars of the One Chicago universe — Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med — for new seasons set to return in fall 2026.
With the renewals, Chicago Fire will head into its 15th season, Chicago P.D. into its 14th, and Chicago Med into its 12th — further cementing the franchise as one of the most durable brands in broadcast television.
A Franchise That Still Delivers
The pickup isn’t surprising, but the timing is notable. NBC typically waits until closer to its upfront presentations in May to lock in renewals for the franchise. This year, the decision came early — a clear signal of confidence in a lineup that continues to perform both on linear and streaming.
And the numbers back it up.
The March 4 crossover event — a staple for the franchise — pushed all three series to season highs in total viewers, reinforcing just how strong the shared universe remains more than a decade in. On streaming, the shows also consistently land in Peacock’s Top 10 during their runs, proving their reach extends well beyond live TV.
Why ‘One Chicago’ Still Works
At its core, the One Chicago franchise continues to thrive because of its formula: high-stakes cases paired with grounded, character-driven storytelling. Whether it’s firefighters, police officers, or medical professionals, the shows center on the personal and professional lives of first responders — and that emotional throughline keeps audiences invested season after season.
Behind the scenes, the franchise remains anchored by powerhouse producer Dick Wolf and his Wolf Entertainment banner, which continues its long-standing partnership with NBC and Universal Television.
What Comes Next
While all three shows are locked in for the 2026–2027 season, some details are still being finalized — including episode counts and cast deals. Like previous years, contract negotiations with key cast members are expected, though major exits don’t appear imminent.
The renewals also come as NBC continues to shape the rest of its slate. Decisions are still pending for several dramas and comedies, including other Wolf Entertainment titles within the Law & Order universe.
The Bigger Picture
In a television landscape that’s constantly shifting — with cancellations happening faster than ever — One Chicago remains a rare example of consistency. More than ten years in, it’s still a cornerstone of NBC’s programming strategy and a reliable draw across platforms.
And with three more seasons officially on the way, it’s clear: this franchise isn’t just surviving — it’s still setting the pace.
