Palm Royale Canceled at Apple TV+ After Two Seasons

Apple TV+ has officially canceled Palm Royale after two seasons, bringing the Emmy-nominated dramedy to a close. Created by Abe Sylvia and led by Kristen Wiig, the series quietly took its final bow following a critically recognized run that blended satire, social commentary, and high-society glamour. The streamer declined to comment on the decision.

The ensemble cast also featured Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and television icon Carol Burnett.

A Glamorous Underdog Story With Awards Heat

Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, the series followed Maxine Simmons (Wiig) in 1969 as she attempted to infiltrate Palm Beach’s elite social circle. Armed with impeccable style and even sharper instincts, Maxine chased status in a world defined by exclusivity, wealth, and quiet cruelty. At its core, Palm Royale asked a pointed question: how much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to sit at someone else’s table?

Season 1 resonated with awards voters, earning 11 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for Wiig, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Burnett. The show ultimately won for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.

For Season 2, Wiig continued her awards run with a nomination at the Actor Awards, while the series also earned a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series — underscoring its cultural and industry recognition.

Season 2 Delivered Closure — And a Farewell

In its sophomore season, Maxine found herself exiled from the very social class she fought so hard to enter after a scandalous public unraveling. The new chapter forced her to navigate power, perception, and reinvention — themes the show handled with glossy aesthetics and biting humor.

While the narrative could have stretched further into Palm Beach’s secrets, lies, and whispered felonies, the Season 2 finale offered a sense of conclusion rather than a cliffhanger.

Notably, the episode served as a tribute to Burnett’s character, Norma Dellacorte. In her planned final appearance, Burnett delivered a warm rendition of “Something Good,” giving the series a graceful emotional sendoff.

Season 2 also expanded its cast with Claudia Ferri, Jason Canela, Jordan Bridges, James Urbaniak, Roberto Sanchez, Rick Cosnett, and Ryan Dorsey, alongside guest appearances from John Stamos, Patti LuPone, Vicki Lawrence, and Matt Rogers.

The Bigger Picture for Apple TV+

Produced by Apple Studios, Palm Royale was written, executive produced, and showrun by Sylvia under Aunt Sylvia’s Moving Picture Company. Executive producers included Dern, Jayme Lemons for Jaywalker Pictures, Wiig, and Katie O’Connell Marsh, along with Sharr White, Sheri Holman, Becky Mode, and Stephanie Laing.

The cancellation reflects Apple TV+’s ongoing strategy of tightening its slate around high-performing, globally scaled titles — even when critically acclaimed projects are part of the mix. In today’s streaming environment, awards recognition doesn’t always translate to longevity.

Still, for two seasons, Palm Royale delivered camp, commentary, and couture in equal measure. And while Maxine Simmons may not be ruling Palm Beach anymore, the show leaves behind a stylish reminder that ambition — especially when wrapped in satin and secrets — always makes for good television.
