Delayed Indefinitely: Paramount Pulls Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s Untitled Comedy With South Park Creators From Release Calendar

Paramount Pictures has officially pulled Kendrick Lamar’s mysterious live-action comedy with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone off its release calendar, removing it from the previously set March 20, 2026 date. The delay marks the project’s second major schedule shift — and this time, the studio isn’t offering a new date at all.

Park County and pgLang acknowledged the move in a joint statement, saying: “It’s true — we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie.”

A Long Road Filled With Shifts — and Secrecy

The untitled film has been one of Paramount’s most tightly guarded projects. When first announced in 2024, the movie was set for a July 4, 2025 release. Earlier this year, the date was shifted to March 20, 2026 to accommodate Lamar’s global tour and Parker and Stone’s South Park production schedule. Now, with the film pulled entirely, it’s the longest and most significant pause yet.

Adding to the intrigue: at one point during development, the project circulated under the working title Whitney Springs, though Paramount has never confirmed it as the official name. The studio has since stopped using any title altogether, publicly referring to the project only as an “untitled live-action comedy.”

What We Know (And Don’t Know)

No cast, logline, or official premise has been released. The only confirmed details are:

  • It’s written by comedian Vernon Chatman.
  • Lamar and Dave Free are producing for pgLang.
  • Parker and Stone are producing for Park County.

A reported earlier premise described a young Black man working as a slave reenactor who discovers his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his — but again, Paramount has never verified that storyline.

Why the Delay?

Insiders point to the same situation behind the first schedule change: timing conflicts. Lamar is on a global tour until next month, while Parker and Stone are deep into South Park Season 28. With all three creatives juggling major commitments, the film simply wasn’t ready for the timeline previously set.

Paramount Still in Business With the Creators

Even with the push, there’s no tension between the studio and the team. Parker and Stone received a recent shoutout on a Paramount earnings call as South Park continues posting strong ratings heading into its 29th season. Their partnership with the studio remains intact.

With the film now off the calendar, Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, stands as the only major title currently holding that March 20 weekend.

Lamar and South Park Creators Stay Busy

While the film continues being refined:

  • Kendrick Lamar is leading the 2026 Grammy nominations with nine nods for his album GNX and single “Luther.”
  • Parker and Stone are in the midst of their latest South Park run, continuing the long-running Comedy Central comedy’s political and cultural satire streak.

What’s Next?

There’s no new release date and no timeline for when Paramount will re-date the film. For now, the long-developing project — once referred to as Whitney Springs — remains an enigmatic, evolving collaboration between Lamar, Parker, and Stone.

Blex Media will update as soon as the studio sets its next move.
