Paramount+ has officially renewed Taylor Sheridan’s espionage drama Lioness for a third season. The renewal comes nearly 10 months after Season 2 wrapped, marking the longest gap yet for the series, which previously aired Seasons 1 and 2 within just over a year of each other.
The series, created by Sheridan and co-produced by 101 Studios and Paramount TV Studios, stars and is executive produced by Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman. While Saldaña had a three-season acting deal in place from the beginning, Kidman’s participation in Season 3 required a new deal—one of the factors behind the delay in renewal.
The pause between seasons has been significant for both stars: during that time, Saldaña joined Kidman in the Oscar winner circle for her performance in Emilia Pérez, while Kidman earned a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Lioness Season 2.
What to Expect from Season 3
Production on the new season is slated to begin in October at the newly unveiled Fort Worth campus in Texas’ AllianceTexas development—a partnership between SGS Studios, Sheridan, Paramount Television, and Hillwood. David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, previously revealed that Lioness Season 3 will be among the four Sheridan projects filming on the lot this year, alongside Landman Season 2 and The Madison Season 2.
Season 2 of Lioness saw the CIA’s fight against terror shift closer to home, with Joe (Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Kidman), and Byron (Michael Kelly) enlisting a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a hidden domestic threat. As the mission intensified, Joe faced the devastating personal sacrifices that come with leading the program.
The ensemble cast of Season 2 included Morgan Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier.
