Prime Video is checking out of Hotel Costiera. The English-language Italian mystery series, which stars Grey’s Anatomy alum Jesse Williams, will not return for a second season on the streamer.
Season 1, co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Luca Bernabei for Lux Vide (owned by Fremantle), premiered on September 24 to strong reviews, earning a 90% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The six-episode series follows Daniel De Luca (Williams), a half-Italian former U.S. Marine turned fixer at a luxury hotel on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Daniel balances his daily duties with solving the disappearance of the hotel owner’s daughter, Alice, a mystery resolved in the finale—but with a cliffhanger teasing the arrival of Daniel’s estranged Italian father.
While Hotel Costiera performed well on Prime Video—debuting at No. 1 in the U.S. and remaining in the daily Top 10 for several weeks—it did not reach the weekly Nielsen Top 10 for scripted originals, though it spent three weeks on Luminate’s Top 50, peaking at No. 13.
Despite the cancellation, the show may not be finished. Fremantle, which holds international rights, is shopping Hotel Costiera for a potential second season with a new co-producing partner. Deals for Season 1 have already been secured in several international territories, including Rewind’s Hits Now network in Asia, Star Entertainment in India, and LG U+ in South Korea.
The series also stars Maria Chiara Giannetta, Jordan Alexandra, Antonio Gerardi, Sam Haygarth, Tommaso Ragno, Amanda Campana, Pierpaolo Spollon, Alejandra Onieva, and Jean-Hugues Anglade. Season 1 was directed by Adam Bernstein and Giacomo Martelli, based on an idea by Luca Bernabei, and written by Elena Bucaccio, Matthew Parkhill, and Francesco Arlanch.
While Hotel Costiera may have lost its home at Prime Video, Fremantle’s efforts to find a new partner could give fans hope for a second season—and another chance to return to the scenic Amalfi Coast with Daniel De Luca.
