Prime Video Unveils Trailer for Morgan Freeman-Produced Civil War Spy Drama Series ‘The Gray House’

Prime Video has released the first trailer for The Gray House, a sweeping Civil War–era limited series executive produced by Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner. The eight-episode drama, directed entirely by Roland Joffé, will launch globally on Prime Video on February 26, 2026, with all episodes dropping at once.

Inspired by real events, The Gray House tells the extraordinary and largely untold story of four women operating deep inside Confederate Richmond who quietly helped shift the course of the Civil War. A Virginia socialite (Daisy Head) , her fiercely resolute mother (Mary-Louise Parker), a formerly enslaved sister-in-arms (Amethyst Davis), and the city’s most infamous courtesan transform an Underground Railroad operation into a high-stakes espionage network—risking their lives and freedom to aid the Union and protect the future of American democracy.

The newly released trailer offers a tense first look at the series’ tone and scale, weaving together whispered conspiracies, coded messages, masked meetings, and full-scale Civil War battle sequences. “If we leave evil alone, are we responsible for it growing?” one of the women asks, underscoring the moral stakes at the heart of the story.

The series also stars Ben Vereen, Paul Anderson, Ian Duff, Hannah James, Robert Knepper, Christopher McDonald, Colin Morgan, Rob Morrow, Colin O’Donoghue, Sam Trammell, and Keith David.

The Gray House is written by Leslie Greif, Darrell Fetty, and John Sayles, and produced under the Republic Pictures banner. Executive producers include Costner for Territory Pictures, Freeman and Lori McCreary for Revelations Entertainment, Rod Lake and Howard Kaplan for Territory Pictures, and Greif for Big Dreams Entertainment. Paramount Global Content Distribution is handling international sales after securing the U.S. deal with Prime Video.

Music plays a major role in the series’ emotional scope, featuring original songs performed by Willie Nelson, Shania Twain, Killer Mike, Yolanda Adams, Lainey Wilson, Drake Milligan, The War and Treaty, Larkin Poe, Scott Stapp, Adrienne Warren, and more. Jon Bon Jovi also co-wrote one of the original tracks. The score is composed by John Debney and Bruce Broughton, with music supervision by Greg Cahn and soundtrack production by Leslie Lewis.

Blending political intrigue, espionage, and historical drama, The Gray House positions women—long sidelined in Civil War storytelling—at the center of a covert operation that helped alter history. Prime Video will debut all eight episodes of the limited series on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
