Apple TV+ is developing a series adaptation of Funny You Should Ask, the best-selling novel by Elissa Sussman — and Regé-Jean Page is attached to star.
The project is in early development, with Page also serving as executive producer alongside his producing partner Emily Brown under their A Mighty Stranger Production banner. The adaptation is being written by Rachel Alter, with Tomorrow Studios producing.
Funny You Should Ask follows a young journalist who lands the interview of her dreams with a Hollywood A-lister — only to reunite with him ten years later, sparking questions about what really happened during their first encounter and what could still be between them. The role of the movie star, who in the book is the newest James Bond, is being developed for Page — a fitting nod, considering the British actor has long been a fan-favorite for the 007 role in real life.
If the project goes to series, it would mark Page’s return to television — and to the romance genre — since his breakout role as Simon Basset in the first season of Bridgerton. His performance in the hit Shondaland series launched him into global stardom and led to major film roles in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, The Gray Man, and most recently, Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag.
The producing team also includes Robin Schwartz and Carolyn Daucher, along with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner of Tomorrow Studios. The project comes through Schwartz’s first-look deal with Tomorrow Studios, a partnership with ITV Studios.
No premiere date has been set, and Apple has yet to comment on the development.
