Renée Elise Goldsberry’s Satisfied Documentary Gets Nationwide Theatrical Release This Fall

Renée Elise Goldsberry is taking her story from Broadway to the big screen. Satisfied, a new documentary chronicling her tumultuous year opening Hamilton on Broadway, will be released in U.S. theaters September 30–October 2 via Aura Entertainment and Fathom Entertainment.

The documentary, which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, features never-before-seen vlogs Goldsberry recorded throughout her journey—including early footage from the making of Hamilton. Interwoven with those intimate videos are new interviews with Goldsberry, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ariana DeBose, and more, capturing both the meteoric rise of a cultural phenomenon and the private challenges of the woman at its center.

Directed by Chris Bolan (A Secret Love) and Melissa Haizlip (Mr. SOUL!), Satisfied is produced by Stick Figure in association with Amblin Documentaries and Aperture Media Partners. Goldsberry serves as an executive producer alongside Audra McDonald and Kelli O’Hara.

A Story Beyond Broadway

For Goldsberry, Satisfied isn’t just about her show-stopping performance as Angelica Schuyler. It’s about what was happening offstage. The Tony Award winner documented her struggles with fertility, motherhood, and identity as she navigated the biggest role of her career while raising two young children.

“I had two big dreams when I was little: to be a mother, and to have a career as a singer and an actor,” Goldsberry says in the trailer. “Until I grew up, and it felt like striving for one threatened the other.”

The film also highlights deeply personal moments—her son’s birthdays, the adoption of her daughter in Ethiopia, and even her uncertainty before auditioning for what was then called The Hamilton Mixtape. At the time, she nearly passed on the audition, choosing to prioritize her family—until hearing Miranda’s demos pulled her back in.

Hamilton at 10

The theatrical release of Satisfied arrives during Hamilton’s 10th anniversary celebration, with movie theater screenings of the original Broadway cast beginning September 5. Together, the re-release and the documentary give audiences a front-row seat to the artistry and sacrifices that helped redefine Broadway.

Aura Entertainment CEO Marc Goldberg described Satisfied as “a story about motherhood and resilience” that offers “a behind-the-scenes look at a cultural phenomenon that audiences around the world will find deeply moving.”

Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt echoed that sentiment: “With Hamilton coming back to theatres in celebration of its 10-year anniversary on Broadway, the timing is ideal for Satisfied to come to the big screen.”
