Netflix has officially set a premiere date for Ruth & Boaz, the first film from Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin’s faith-based creative partnership with the streamer. The modern-day reimagining of the biblical love story will debut globally on September 26, 2025.
Directed by Alanna Brown, the film follows Ruth Moably (Serayah McNeill), a rising Atlanta hip-hop artist who steps away from the spotlight after the tragic loss of her boyfriend. She moves to rural Tennessee to care for his grieving mother, Naomi, played by Phylicia Rashad. There, she finds unexpected love and healing with Boaz (Tyler Lepley).
The cast blends Hollywood and music industry heavyweights, with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Jermaine Dupri, Lecrae, Yung Joc, Nijah Brenea, Walnette Santiago, James Lee Thomas, and Christopher Broughton joining the ensemble.
Written by Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar) and Cory Tynan (Play’d), Ruth & Boaz is produced by Perry and Franklin, with Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, and Bart Lipton serving as executive producers.
Netflix recently debuted the trailer, teasing the film’s balance of music, heart, and faith. Perry and Franklin, who have been close collaborators for more than 15 years, said this project is part of their mission to create stories that uplift and inspire.
The partnership, first announced in 2024, expands Perry’s Netflix slate to include scripted and unscripted content rooted in faith-forward storytelling. Franklin, meanwhile, continues to build on his track record with inspirational hits like Flamin’ Hot and Miracles From Heaven.
With Ruth & Boaz, expect a soulful blend of gospel, hip-hop, and R&B underscoring a story of love, purpose, and divine timing—delivered through the lens of Southern Black life.
Ruth & Boaz premieres September 26, 2025 on Netflix.
