The Costume Designers Guild has announced the nominees for its 28th Annual CDG Awards, celebrating the creative talent shaping film and television wardrobes. Among the standout nominations are Ruth E. Carter for Sinners in the Excellence in Period Film category and Paul Tazewell for Wicked: For Good in the Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film category — marking the sixth CDGA nomination for each designer.
For Carter, this nomination continues a storied career defined by iconic designs and groundbreaking achievements. She has previously won CDG Awards for Black Panther and Coming 2 America, received the Career Achievement Award, and is a two-time Academy Award winner for Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Her work has set the standard for storytelling through costume, blending historical authenticity with bold creativity.
Tazewell, celebrated for his work across stage, film, and television, has won CDG Awards for Wicked and the filmed Broadway sensation Hamilton. He is also a Tony, Emmy, and Oscar winner, recognized for projects including The Wiz Live! and Hamilton. Tazewell’s designs combine theatrical spectacle with cinematic storytelling, cementing his reputation as one of the industry’s most visionary costume designers.
The 2026 CDGA nominations showcase the breadth and impact of both designers, whose work continues to elevate the art of costume design across film, television, and theater. Winners will be announced at the 28th Annual CDG Awards ceremony on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at The Ebell of Los Angeles, with additional honors for Hall of Famers and career achievement recipients to be revealed in the coming weeks.
