S.W.A.T. Exiles has recruited its new squad. Sony Pictures Television has announced the series regulars joining Shemar Moore in the upcoming spinoff, which kicks off production later this month in Los Angeles.
Joining the new unit are Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Freddy Miyares, Ronen Rubinstein, and Zyra Gorecki. They join previously announced returning S.W.A.T. stars Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit, who will reprise their roles in the pilot as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Commander Robert Hicks alongside Moore’s Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.
A New Squad, A New Mission
The spinoff centers on Hondo, who is pulled out of forced retirement after a high-profile mission goes wrong. Tasked with leading an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits, Hondo must bridge generational divides, manage clashing personalities, and transform a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city—and saving the program that defined his career.
A Franchise with History
The S.W.A.T. franchise first launched in 1975 as an ABC action drama created by Robert Hamner and produced by Aaron Spelling, later revived in the 2003 feature film starring Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell. Its most recent and longest run came with CBS’ 2017 reboot, led by Moore as Hondo, which lasted eight seasons and mixed high-octane action with socially conscious storytelling.
Now, S.W.A.T. Exiles continues that legacy, passing the torch to a new unit while keeping Hondo at the center.
Behind the Camera
Kevin Tancharoen (The Brothers Sun, The Book of Boba Fett) is set to direct the pilot episode. Jason Ning (Lucifer, The Brothers Sun) serves as showrunner and executive producer under his renewed overall deal with Sony. He’s joined by Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Shemar Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan as executive producers.
Returning Legacy, Fresh Faces
Harrington and St. Esprit’s return marks a welcome surprise for longtime viewers who voiced disappointment at their absence when Exiles was first announced. With the addition of Rubinstein, Barrett, Bradley, Gorecki, and Miyares, the spinoff promises to blend legacy characters with fresh energy as it charts new ground.
The 10-episode series will be produced and distributed globally by Sony Pictures Television. Production also preserves 200 local jobs for the crew that worked on the flagship CBS series across its eight-season run.
