Samira Wiley and Jin Ha Join Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle in Broadway’s Proof Revival

Emmy and SAG Award winner Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Hamilton alum Jin Ha have joined Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle in the first New York revival of David Auburn’s Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play Proof.

The 16-week limited engagement begins March 31, 2026, at The Booth Theatre, with opening night set for April 16.

Directed by Tony Award winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton), the revival marks Wiley’s Broadway debut and reunites Ha with Kail after their work together on Hamilton.

The Story

Proof follows Catherine (Edebiri), the daughter of Robert (Cheadle) — a brilliant but mentally ill mathematician. After his death, a notebook containing a potentially groundbreaking proof is found, sparking debate over its authorship. As questions of genius, legacy, and mental health collide, Catherine must prove more than her intelligence — she must prove herself.

The Talent Behind the Curtain

This revival boasts a powerhouse creative team:

  • Kris Bowers (Oscar & Emmy winner) – Original Music
  • Teresa L. Williams – Scenic Design
  • Dede Ayite (Tony winner) – Costume Design
  • Amanda Zieve – Lighting Design
  • Justin Ellington & Conor Wang – Sound Design
  • Mia Neal (Oscar & Emmy winner) – Hair & Wig Design
  • Daniel Swee, CSA – Casting Director
  • Sara Gammage – Production Stage Manager

The production is co-produced by Mike Bosner and Thomas Kail, with Baseline Theatrical serving as general manager.

The Legacy of Proof

Originally debuting Off-Broadway in 2000, Proof became a critical and commercial success, transferring to Broadway where it won three Tony Awards, including Best Play, and the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was later adapted into a 2005 film starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins.
