The return of Scary Movie is arriving a little sooner than expected.
Paramount Pictures has officially moved up the release date for Scary Movie 6, with the comedy now set to hit theaters June 5, 2026, one week earlier than its previously announced June 12 debut.
The update was confirmed by Marlon Wayans in a video shared on social media, where he revealed the change while giving a quick update on the film’s editing process.
“We are currently in the edit for Scary Movie,” Wayans said in the video. “I have some good news and I got some bad news. The bad news is we are no longer going to be releasing on June 12. The good news is, due to the overwhelming response and the worldwide excitement, we are releasing a week earlier. That’s right — June 5 is the new date for Scary Movie.”
He added that the team is excited to kick off the summer movie season early with what he described as a “laugh fest.”
The Franchise Returns With Its Original Core
Scary Movie 6 marks the long-awaited return of the horror parody franchise more than a decade after the previous installment. The film reunites the series’ original comedic core, including Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall, reprising their roles as Ray, Cindy, and Brenda.
The film’s official synopsis teases the return of the “Core Four,” who once again find themselves facing a suspiciously familiar masked killer while navigating a world where no horror movie franchise is off limits.
Alongside the returning leads, the ensemble cast includes Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, Gregg Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, and Sydney Park.
A New Era of Horror Gets the Spoof Treatment
Like the earlier films, Scary Movie 6 draws inspiration from the most recognizable horror titles of its time. The recently released trailer confirms that modern genre hits, including Sinners and Get Out, will receive the franchise’s signature parody treatment.
The film also promises to poke fun at Hollywood’s current era of reboots, requels, spin-offs, origin stories, and legacy sequels — trends that have dominated the industry over the past decade.
Behind the camera, Scary Movie 6 is directed by Michael Tiddes and written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. The same group also produces the film, continuing the Wayans family’s deep creative involvement in the franchise.
Starting Summer With a Laugh
With its release now set for early June, the film positions itself as one of the first major comedies of the summer movie season. The earlier release date suggests confidence in the franchise’s return, particularly as horror continues to dominate pop culture — giving the parody series plenty of material to work with.
And if Wayans’ announcement is any indication, the team is ready to bring the franchise back with the same unapologetic humor that made Scary Movie a staple of early-2000s comedy.
‘Scary Movie 6’ will now arrive exclusively in theaters on June 5, 2026.
