‘Scrubs’ Revival Adds X Mayo and Michael James Scott to the Sacred Heart Staff

The Scrubs revival continues to build momentum with two new additions to its ensemble: Emmy-nominated actor and comedian X Mayo and Broadway star Michael James Scott.

The revival, confirmed in late 2024, is moving quickly toward its February 25, 2026 premiere on ABC, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu. Filming has already begun, and the returning creative team is filling out the staff of Sacred Heart with both familiar and new faces.

The revival takes place more than fifteen years after the finale of the original series and reunites creator Bill Lawrence with key cast members. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke return as JD, Turk, and Elliot. Judy Reyes will reprise her role as Carla Espinosa in a guest capacity, while John C. McGinley returns as Dr. Perry Cox. Robert Maschio and Phill Lewis will also return as Todd and Hooch.

New Characters at Sacred Heart

Michael James Scott, currently starring as the Genie in Broadway’s Aladdin, will play Nurse Francois Dubois. Dubois is described as a young, judgmental, and fun co–charge nurse who runs the floor with precision alongside his best friend, Nurse Pippa.

X Mayo will portray Nurse Pippa Raymond. Known for her roles in Freakier Friday, American Auto, Abbott Elementary, and Season 3 of Apple TV+’s Loot, Mayo’s character is described as a sarcastic, gossipy, and highly capable co–charge nurse who prides herself on keeping the unit tightly organized.

Alongside X Mayo and Michael James Scott, the revival will introduce several new cast members, including:

  • Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live)
  • Joel Kim Booster (Fire Island)
  • Ava Bunn (Head Shot)
  • Jacob Dudman (The Stranger)
  • David Gridley (It Takes Three)
  • Layla Mohammadi (Lioness)
  • Amanda Morrow (The Devil Wears Prada 2)

Honoring the Original While Moving Forward

Zach Braff recently shared that the new season aims to maintain the heart, humor, and emotional tone of the original series while updating it for modern audiences. He noted the writers’ room now includes both veteran writers from the original show and a young, diverse team bringing new perspectives. Donald Faison added that the core story still resonates and that fans can expect to follow their favorite doctors through a new stage of life and career.

The Scrubs revival premieres Wednesday, February 25, 2026 on ABC.
