A reunion three decades in the making is officially happening in Genoa City.
Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are set to reprise their roles as Malcolm Winters and Dr. Stephanie Simmons on The Young and the Restless for a multi-episode storyline airing in April.
Both actors began filming on February 17, with CBS teasing that their return will carry “shocking and lasting implications” for the residents of Genoa City.
Malcolm Winters Comes Home — Again
Moore originated the role of Malcolm Winters in 1994 and remained a central figure on the soap through 2005. As the half-brother of the late Neil Winters (portrayed by Kristoff St. John), Malcolm’s roots run deep in the Winters family legacy.
Over the years, Moore has returned for key moments — including appearances in 2014, 2019, and most recently in 2023 during the show’s 50th anniversary tribute to St. John. In that milestone episode, Malcolm stood before Neil’s portrait and delivered a line that resonated with longtime viewers: “When it came to the great Neil Winters, I show up. Whatever it takes.”
Beyond daytime, Moore has built a primetime career with roles on Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T., and recently wrapped production on the spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles.
Vivica A. Fox Returns for the First Time Since 1995
Fox’s comeback marks her first appearance on Y&R in more than 30 years. She originally portrayed Dr. Stephanie Simmons from 1994 to 1995. During her run, Stephanie was romantically involved with Malcolm — a relationship that ultimately dissolved when career priorities pulled her away from Genoa City.
After departing the soap, Fox transitioned into film, landing her breakout role in Independence Day and going on to build a decades-long career across television and film. Her return now places Stephanie back in Malcolm’s orbit — and potentially back into unfinished emotional territory.
A Storyline With Consequences
While specific plot details remain under wraps, CBS has confirmed that this is not a brief cameo. The arc is being positioned as a pivotal storyline with ripple effects across Genoa City.
The timing is notable. The series, currently in its 53rd season, is also gearing up for a crossover event with Beyond the Gates this June, signaling a broader expansion of its daytime universe.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. ET on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
