Ryan Coogler’s Sinners continues its winning streak as it’s set to receive the Ensemble Tribute at the 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards. The ceremony takes place Monday, December 1 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
Deadline exclusively revealed that the full cast — led by Michael B. Jordan in dual roles — will be honored for their collective performances that helped make Sinners one of the year’s biggest cultural and box office hits. The ensemble includes Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Buddy Guy, Li Jun Li, Delroy Lindo, Adepero Oduye, and Keith David.
The tribute will be presented by Ryan Coogler himself, joining the night’s other honoree, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which will receive The Gotham Vanguard Tribute.
Written and directed by Coogler, Sinners takes audiences back to 1932 Mississippi, where twin brothers Smoke and Stack (both played by Jordan) return home to open a juke joint that rekindles their community’s soul through music and art. But their revival quickly turns dark when an evil force emerges — threatening to consume the people and culture they’re fighting to protect.
Shot in Ultra Panavision 70 and IMAX 70mm, Sinners debuted on April 18 to widespread acclaim and has since grossed over $366 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing original horror films in history. It’s also the first original live-action Hollywood film to surpass $200 million domestically since Gravity in 2013.
Produced by Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian under their Proximity Media banner, the film blends Southern Gothic atmosphere, cultural symbolism, and horror with Coogler’s signature storytelling style.
Since its introduction in 2005, the Gotham Ensemble Tribute has celebrated casts whose collective chemistry and craft leave a lasting impression. Previous honorees include Moonlight, The Favourite, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Fire Island, and The Piano Lesson.
Nominees for this year’s competitive Gotham categories will be announced October 28.
