‘Sinners’ Makes Grammy History as One of the Most-Nominated Films Ever With 5 Nods

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners continues its remarkable run — this time at the 68th annual Grammy Awards, where it made history as one of the most-nominated movies ever, earning five nominations across major film and television music categories.

The dark, emotionally charged Southern gothic drama — already hailed for its groundbreaking storytelling and record-breaking box office — dominated the visual media field at this year’s nominations, proving its impact extends far beyond the screen.

The 5 Grammy Nominations for Sinners

  • Best Score Soundtrack for Film/TV
Composer Ludwig Göransson is nominated for his haunting, gospel-infused score that anchors the film’s blend of horror, spirituality, and humanity. His work on Sinners has been praised for turning sound into storytelling — each note echoing themes of faith, sin, and survival.
  • Best Song Written for Film/TV (x3)
Sinners swept the category with three original tracks earning nominations:

    • “I Lied to You” — written by Ludwig Göransson & Raphael Saadiq, performed by Miles Caton
    • “Pale, Pale Moon” — written by Ludwig Göransson & Brittany Howard, performed by Jayme Lawson
    • “Sinners” — written by Leonard Denisenko, Rodarius “Rod Wave” Green, Travis Harrington, Tarkan Kozluklu, Kyris Mingo & Darius Povilinus, performed by Rod Wave

The triple nomination showcases the film’s dynamic range — from raw, confessional ballads to spiritual blues and cinematic anthems that mirror its emotional core.

  • Best Compilation Soundtrack for Film/TV
The Sinners soundtrack — a stirring collection that merges new voices with traditional Southern sounds — was also recognized. The album builds on the film’s world, blending gospel, blues, and soul into something both cinematic and ancestral.

A Cultural and Musical Triumph

The Grammy recognition caps off a powerful year for Sinners, which has not only redefined modern Black horror but also highlighted the intersection between music and identity in storytelling. The film’s sonic landscape — rooted in the Black Southern experience — transforms each scene into a spiritual ritual.

With five nominations, Sinners joins the ranks of the most-celebrated films in Grammy history, standing alongside classics like The Bodyguard, Purple Rain, and A Star Is Born in its ability to transcend medium and era.

The 68th annual Grammy Awards will take place February 1, 2026, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles — and all eyes will be on Sinners to see how many of those golden gramophones it takes home.

Whether it wins or not, one thing is certain: Sinners has already secured its place as one of the most sonically ambitious and culturally defining films of its time.
