Sommore is headed back to Netflix with a brand-new stand-up special, Chandelier Fly, premiering February 17.
Filmed at the historic Garden Theater in Detroit, Michigan, the special marks Sommore’s second outing with the streamer following her 2023 release Queen Chandelier. In Chandelier Fly, the veteran comedian delivers her signature sharp, unapologetic humor, tackling everything from untimely death and celebrity scandals to cell phone companies that know entirely too much about our business.
The special is directed by Kevin Layne, with Sommore serving as executive producer alongside Wayne B. Baxley. Sommore also wrote and performed the hour, continuing her long-standing tradition of maintaining creative control over her comedy projects.
A stand-up fixture since 1995, Sommore made history as the first female host of BET’s ComicView and later became a household name as one of the four headliners of The Queens of Comedy tour, alongside Laura Hayes, Adele Givens, and Mo’Nique. The tour remains one of the most influential moments in stand-up comedy history, spotlighting Black women comics at a mainstream level rarely seen before.
Beyond Netflix, Sommore has built an extensive catalog of self-produced and network-backed comedy specials, including The Queen Stands Alone (Comedy Central), Chandelier Status, The Reign Continues, and A Queen with No Spades (Showtime). She also created and hosted BET’s All the Queen’s Men, a stand-up showcase highlighting emerging comedians from her own touring roster.
In addition to her work onstage, Sommore has appeared in films such as Friday After Next, Soul Plane, and Something New, as well as television series including The Parkers and The Hughleys. Her cultural impact has also led to guest appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The View, Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, and CNN.
With Chandelier Fly, Sommore once again reclaims her throne—offering a seasoned, fearless perspective that reflects both her longevity in comedy and her continued relevance.
