Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù is stepping into the line of fire — and faith — in Netflix’s upcoming thriller All the Sinners Bleed, written by Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole.
The Gangs of London and Black Rabbit star will headline the nine-episode adaptation of S.A. Cosby’s bestselling 2023 novel, bringing to life a story steeped in Southern Gothic grit, faith, and the hunt for a killer.
Set in a small Bible Belt county, Dìrísù plays the first Black sheriff in the town’s history — a man haunted by his devout mother’s untimely death and his past with the FBI. His latest case: tracking a serial killer who’s been quietly preying on the Black community for years, claiming to kill in the name of God.
Cole will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, as well as direct the first and select episodes. The series comes from Higher Ground Productions — Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company — in partnership with Amblin Television and Cosby himself. Netflix and Higher Ground have previously teamed up on Bodkin, Leave the World Behind, American Symphony, Working: What We Do All Day, and Rustin.
Published in 2023, All the Sinners Bleed cemented Cosby as a powerhouse in crime fiction, earning spots on The New York Times bestseller list and even Barack Obama’s summer reading list. NPR praised him as “one of the best-known names in the new, wonderfully diverse wave of crime fiction writers.”
No additional casting has been announced yet, but with Dìrísù leading and Cole at the helm, All the Sinners Bleed is already shaping up to be Netflix’s next dark obsession.
