Sony Delays ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Again — New Summer 2027 Date Revealed

Sony Pictures Animation is giving Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse a slight web-swing down the release calendar. The long-awaited third and final chapter in the Oscar-winning animated trilogy will now hit theaters June 25, 2027, pushed back three weeks from its previously scheduled June 4 release.

The delay isn’t due to production holdups—this time, it’s strategy. With summer break in full swing by late June and a more open IMAX window available, Sony is locking in a prime spot. According to producer and co-writer Christopher Miller, the new date avoids competition from Star Wars: Starfighter and How to Train Your Dragon 2, giving Spider-Verse more breathing room at the box office.

Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally slated for March 2024 but was delayed due to the dual Hollywood strikes. Now, after several moves, it’s found a summer 2027 landing spot.

The film will pick up directly after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which left Miles Morales stranded in an alternate dimension—face to face with a version of himself who’s turned into the villainous Prowler. Meanwhile, Gwen Stacy and the rest of his multiverse crew are gearing up to save him—if they can do it without unraveling the universe.

Together, Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023) have earned over $1.08 billion worldwide and redefined the possibilities of animated storytelling. With a distinct visual style crafted for each film and a story that balances heart, humor, and heroism, the trilogy is already considered one of the greatest in superhero cinema.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. Lord and Miller produce alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh.

While fans will have to wait a bit longer, the promise of a satisfying conclusion to one of the most beloved animated sagas in recent memory is worth it. And if you’re craving more web-slinging in the meantime, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still on track for July 31, 2026.

Also newly added to Sony’s release calendar: the original animated film Buds, set for March 12, 2027.
