The 2025 Emmy Nominations Are In — And These Black and Brown Creatives Are Leading the Charge

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations are officially in—and before we break down the overall race, we’re shining a light on the Black and Brown talent who earned well-deserved recognition across major categories. From returning favorites like Abbott Elementary and The Bear to breakout performances in Paradise, Black Mirror, and Dope Thief, this year’s nominations reflect a continued push toward more inclusive storytelling at TV’s highest level.

The Television Academy unveiled the full slate of nominees Tuesday morning, with What We Do in the Shadows star Harvey Guillén and Running Point actress Brenda Song making the announcements live from North Hollywood. CBS had previously revealed two categories—Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Talk Series—on CBS Mornings earlier in the day.

Apple TV+’s Severance leads the overall count with 27 nominations, followed closely by HBO Max’s The Penguin with 24. The White Lotus and The Studio each earned 23 nods, with The Studio tying The Bear for the most nominations for a comedy in a single year.

Voting for the Emmys begins August 18 and runs through August 27. The Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies will take place September 6–7, ahead of the main event: the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing live Sunday, September 14 at 5 p.m. PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
