The end is finally in sight for one of television’s most chaotic superhero sagas.
Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for the fifth and final season of The Boys, setting the stage for a brutal showdown that will determine the fate of Supes and humanity alike. The Eric Kripke-created series will premiere its final chapter on April 8 with two episodes, leading up to the series finale on May 20.
And based on the newly released footage, the final season is gearing up to be a full-blown battle royale.
Homelander’s World
The trailer makes one thing clear: Homelander’s grip on power has reached terrifying heights.
After the events of Season 4 — which ended with the United States under martial law and Homelander effectively controlling the country — the egomaniacal Supe is now chasing what he calls a “bigger destiny.” His latest goal involves tracking down V1, the original version of Compound V, a substance that could potentially make him immortal.
Meanwhile, Homelander reunites with his father, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, thawing him out to help prepare the country for what he calls his “ascension.”
The Boys Are Down — But Not Out
While Homelander consolidates power, the team that once kept Supes in check is in serious trouble.
Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) have been captured and placed inside a so-called “Freedom Camp.” Annie January (Erin Moriarty), who has regained her Starlight abilities, is attempting to build a resistance against the overwhelming Supe presence. Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) is mysteriously missing.
But the biggest wildcard comes in the form of Billy Butcher.
After surviving the previous season with dangerous new powers, Butcher (Karl Urban) resurfaces armed with a devastating plan — a virus capable of wiping Supes off the planet entirely. His return sets off a chain reaction that could permanently reshape the world.
The Final Battle
Season 5 brings back the show’s core cast, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Daveed Diggs. The final season will also feature a reunion between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles with creator Eric Kripke, marking a notable moment for fans of their previous collaborations.
Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys has spent four seasons delivering a biting, ultra-violent critique of superhero culture, corporate power, and celebrity worship.
Now, everything is leading to one final clash between Supes and the humans determined to stop them.
Expanding the Universe
Even as the flagship series comes to an end, the world of The Boys isn’t disappearing anytime soon.
The franchise continues to expand with the college-set spinoff Gen V, which recently wrapped its second season and helps set up the events of the final chapter. Additional projects are also in development, including the prequel series Vought Rising, led by showrunner Paul Grellong, and The Boys: Mexico, executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal.
Still, Season 5 marks the final ride for the original crew.
And if the trailer is any indication, it’s going to end exactly how The Boys began — messy, violent, and completely unpredictable.
