The end of an era is officially in motion.
Paramount+ has released the first look at the eighth and final season of The Chi, offering an early glimpse into the series’ closing chapter as production continues in Chicago. Filming began in January, marking the start of what is shaping up to be the show’s most intense and emotionally charged season yet.
As The Chi heads into its final run, the stakes are higher than ever. Set against what’s described as the show’s “coldest winter,” Season 8 will push its characters into life-or-death decisions, where legacy, loyalty, and survival all collide. The question at the center: who’s willing to do what it takes when everything is on the line?
The series returns with its core ensemble, including Jacob Latimore, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Hannaha Hall, and Jason Weaver—with Hall and Weaver now stepping into expanded roles as series regulars for the final chapter.

Hall, who has been with the show since its debut, has shaped Tiffany “Tiff” Bryant into one of the series’ most layered characters—balancing motherhood, ambition, and independence. Meanwhile, Weaver’s Rashaad “Shaad” Marshall has grown into a fan-favorite presence, known for his honesty, resilience, and unwavering sense of self.
Created and executive produced by Lena Waithe, The Chi has built its legacy by centering interconnected lives on Chicago’s South Side—telling grounded, character-driven stories about community, relationships, and survival. That foundation remains intact heading into its final season, with Waithe continuing to lead under her Hillman Grad banner alongside co-showrunners Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel.
The series also boasts a powerhouse producing team that includes Common, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, Naomi Funabashi, Rishi Rajani, and James Rogers III. Directors Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield return to helm multiple episodes while stepping into co-executive producer roles.
Since its debut in 2018, The Chi has become a defining series—not just for Showtime, but for Black storytelling on television. With eight seasons, it stands as the longest-running Black drama on premium cable and streaming, and one of the network’s longest-running dramas overall.
As the series prepares to close this chapter, the first look signals a season rooted in consequence, reflection, and finality—bringing every relationship, rivalry, and decision full circle.
All previous seasons of The Chi are currently available to stream on Paramount+.
