The CW Renews ‘Wild Cards’ For Season 3 — Sets January Premiere

The CW is officially bringing Wild Cards back for another round of crime, chaos, and unexpected partnerships. The network has confirmed that Season 3 of the Canadian crime dramedy will debut Monday, January 26 at 8pm as part of its midseason lineup.

The renewal arrives after CBC in Canada secured Seasons 3 and 4 earlier this year. While the Canadian broadcaster moved forward first, The CW has now aligned itself with the new season and will continue airing the series for U.S. audiences.

What Wild Cards Is All About

The series centers on the unlikely crime-solving team of Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), a straight-laced detective sidelined to the maritime unit, and Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan), a quick-thinking con artist whose scams catch up to her at the worst—and ultimately most opportune—moment. Their uneasy partnership begins when Max helps Ellis crack a case, leading both of them to a shot at redemption. He regains his detective badge; she avoids jail time. The twist: they can only move forward if they work together.

Jason Priestley, Terry Chen, Michael Xavier, Amy Goodmurphy, Fletcher Donovan, Giacomo Baessato, and Karin Konoval round out the ensemble, with Martin Sheen having appeared in the previous season.

What’s Coming in Season 3

The new season picks up one month after the Season 2 finale, with Max stepping into a new role as an official consultant for the police. Her attempt at stability immediately collapses when two major figures return to her orbit.

Ellis reenters the department after being cleared of past charges and resumes his place beside her, reigniting their complicated dynamic. But the real shock comes when a woman Max believed long dead shows up on her doorstep—her mother, Vivienne, played by Tamara Taylor. Her unexpected reappearance becomes the catalyst for the season’s central storyline and further tangles Max’s uneasy connection with Ellis.

Wild Cards is produced by Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures, and Piller/Segan. Michael Konyves created the series and continues to serve as showrunner, executive producing alongside Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, James Thorpe, Alexandra Zarowny, James Genn, and Marcus Robinson.

Season 3 joins The CW’s midseason rollout beginning January 26.
