‘The Listeners’ Trailer: Blair Underwood & Vernon Davis Explore Silence, Memory, and Identity

The first trailer for The Listeners has officially dropped, offering a striking look at the upcoming psychological thriller led by Blair Underwood and NFLer-turned-actor Vernon Davis.

Directed by Joslyn Rose, the film blends music, memory, and mental health into an introspective story that leans into quiet tension.

At the center is David (Davis), a once-celebrated jazz musician who suddenly loses the ability to hear music—an absence that threatens not only his career, but his sense of self. As doctors, played by Underwood and Simone Leanora, attempt to determine whether his condition is neurological or psychological, David finds himself on the brink of institutionalization.

But instead of traditional treatment, he’s pulled into an unconventional form of therapy—one that forces him inward. What unfolds is a deeply personal unraveling, as memories tied to faith, discipline, and unresolved trauma begin to surface.

The ensemble cast also includes Bechir Sylvain, Taylor Talley, and Cindy Herron.

Written by Rose alongside Dominique Mouton, the film reflects a creative vision shaped by Rose’s personal connection to music and spirituality.

Behind the scenes, the project is produced by Mouton under her Dido Belle Productions banner, with Davis through Reel 85 Productions, alongside Underwood, Rose, Anwulika Oputa, and Emmy-winning producer Gary Reeves, who has also served as a social impact and spiritual advisor to the Golden State Warriors.

With the trailer now out, The Listeners is positioning itself as a slow-burn psychological experience—one that asks what happens when the very thing that defines you disappears.
