The ‘Martin’ Universe Expands With Third Series in The Works a ‘Martin’ Sequel

Fans of the iconic ’90s sitcom Martin might want to sit down: a Martin sequel is reportedly in development, bringing back Martin Payne for a brand-new chapter in modern-day Detroit. Now a husband and father alongside Tisha Campbell-Martin’s Gina, Martin is said to be navigating parenthood to newly adult children, his career, and all the hilarious chaos that made the original series legendary.

Whether inspired by the A Different World sequel currently in production at Netflix or just wanting to continue the Martin universe with another series, it seems a Martin sequel is poised to bring back the humor, heart, and wild antics fans remember—now with a grown-up twist.

…and before you freak out, yes—this is an April Fools prank 😏.

While there isn’t actually a Martin sequel in production, Martin Lawrence is expanding the Martin universe with projects that are very real.

BET+ is also developing The Varnell Hill Show, an eight-episode workplace comedy centered on eccentric late-night talk show host Varnell Hill (Tommy Davidson). Kym Whitley joins as Kim Jones, Varnell’s fiercely loyal assistant who doubles as his fixer, emotional shield, and the talk show’s unofficial executive producer. The series delves into the chaos of producing a long-running talk show while exploring network politics, corporate drama, and behind-the-scenes hijinks. Martin Lawrence and Bentley Kyle Evans are executive producing, and Lawrence will appear in multiple episodes.

With Young Martin, The Varnell Hill Show, and the ongoing legacy of the original series, Martin Lawrence is clearly building a modern Martin universe that keeps the humor, heart, and chaos alive for longtime fans and a new generation alike.
