‘The Night Agent’ Renewed for Season 4 at Netflix, Production Moving to Los Angeles

Netflix is keeping the political action thriller The Night Agent alive for another chapter. The streamer has officially renewed the series for a fourth season, with production set to move to Los Angeles after previously filming in Canada and New York.

The series stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, the low-level FBI agent whose life changes after answering a mysterious call on the Night Action emergency line. Since its debut, the show has grown into one of Netflix’s most recognizable action thrillers.

The Night Agent Season 3 also features the return Amanda Warren as Catherine Weaver, with major new additions including Genesis Rodriguez (Isabel), David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, and Callum Vinson. The series regulars for this season also include Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton, and Albert Jones, with Suraj Sharma appearing in a recurring role.

A Quick Renewal After Season 3’s Premiere

The renewal arrives just weeks after Season 3 debuted on February 19, signaling continued confidence from the streamer — even though the newest season opened with softer numbers compared to earlier installments.

Season 3 debuted at No. 2 on Netflix’s English-language charts with 8.4 million views in its first week. That’s lower than Season 2’s 13.9 million opening week views and the breakout success of Season 1, which pulled in more than 21 million views during its launch weekend.

However, the show showed signs of growth in its second week, reaching 9.9 million views, while both Season 1 and Season 2 returned to Netflix’s Top 10, suggesting continued audience interest in the series.

Production Moving to Los Angeles

Season 4 will mark another location shift for the series.

  • Season 1: Filmed primarily in Canada
  • Seasons 2–3: Shot mainly in New York
  • Season 4: Will move production to Los Angeles

The move is tied in part to a $31.6 million California tax credit granted to the show’s studio, Sony Pictures Television, to relocate production from New York to California. The incentive requires filming to begin within six months, meaning Season 4 is expected to start production by late May.

What Season 4 Will Explore

According to series creator Shawn Ryan, the upcoming season will take Peter into a new world tied specifically to Los Angeles — though not Hollywood.

A few early clues about the next chapter:

  • The story will revolve around a major element unique to Los Angeles.
  • Peter will have a brand-new partner, introducing a character the audience hasn’t met before.
  • Several Season 3 characters will return.
  • Unlike the past two seasons, there are currently no international locations planned for the beginning of the season.
  • The story will also question whether the Night Action program itself is justified.

Where Season 3 Left Off

Season 3 followed Peter as a fully official Night Agent investigating a dangerous conspiracy tied to a United Nations intelligence leak and a chemical weapons plot in New York.

After stopping the attack, Peter broke protocol to save lives — a decision that cost him personally and professionally. The season ended with him accepting a risky undercover assignment to infiltrate the network of an intelligence broker, setting up an even deeper mission for the next installment.

A Reliable Thriller for Netflix

Even with fluctuating viewership, The Night Agent remains one of Netflix’s more reliable mid-budget drama series. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the show fits the streamer’s strategy of network-style thrillers with global appeal but manageable budgets.

With a writers’ room already working on scripts and production gearing up in Los Angeles, the next chapter of Peter Sutherland’s mission appears to be moving forward quickly.
